At PetroLedger, we get to know our clients pretty well. We want you to know who we are, too. There’s a lot more personality than you might expect to find at a financial firm, and while professionalism is our first order of business, creating a fun work environment is always close behind! Today we’d like to introduce Andrew James, our Senior Manager of General Accounting. We sat down with him to ask him a few questions and get to know him a little better...
I have been in the Oil & Gas Industry for 15 years. I started out at another outsourcing company doing data entry, whether that be processing invoices or booking revenue checks. After a few years, I moved more into a General Ledger role and started working with financial statements and client services.
In 2014, I left the outsourcing world and went to work for a private company that was backed by private equity. I started out as a Senior Accountant, and, after a few years, I moved into an Assistant Controller role, and then into a Controller role. In 2021, I joined PetroLedger, and I have been working in the General Ledger group since.
I am PetroLedger's Senior Manager of General Accounting. I work directly with the other Senior Managers to make sure that our teams are meeting our clients' needs so they can accurately and efficiently run their businesses, whether that be a full set of financials statements or monthly LOS reports.
The greatest TV show ever made, in my opinion, is “The Office.” I hope to be like Michael Scott when I grow up. If we aren’t having fun while we are at work, then what are we doing?
The first job I ever had was walking natural gas pipelines and checking gas meters for leaks. It was terrible! I started during the summer and hated every day of it— it was hot, not to mention boring. We walked through neighborhoods and up to houses with a machine that would beep if it detected a leak. In some cases, we had to wander around in fields and hope we were going the right way. You had to go into backyards and pray that they didn’t have a giant dog waiting to attack you. I did the job for 3 months, decided that I am not made for the outdoors, and became an accountant.
One of the top things on my bucket list would to be to travel the world overseas. However, it'll continue to be a dream until I can convince my wife to fly internationally.
